about
Imagine yourself in the middle of a vast, lush, ancient forest, with all the different orders of life spilling out in every direction. Soft pillars of sunlight land on the moist moss carpet, rolling over everything and breaking like ocean waves against the bark of towering giants. A gentle stillness cradles you in its arms, the air rippled by bird song and breeze only. Now, imagine forgetting everything—forgetting yourself. You are this life, this beauty. The only thing you need to do to sustain this rapturous intuition is rest on your breath.
“Welcome to Paradise,” the first single from Kate Birch’s forthcoming album titled “Closure,” feels like a slowly ascending escalator into soft shades of blissful ecstasy. Bright, sparkling candy-colored synths, a violin mimicking actual birdsong, and breathy vocals drifting like cirrus clouds against the deep, rich blue of an endless sky. This warm indietronica pop gem was written to chronicle an actual episode of ego death, as experienced one summer day while hiking through the Poschiavo woodlands. In the artist’s own words: “My senses were wide-open; I felt so connected to nature, as if I’d taken a hit of LSD, but I was completely sober. Yet I felt connected to everything: ants, birch trees—all this life around me. The gap between us gone."
lyrics
On a dusty eve she woke and walks in the forest
Where ants birches and black birds witnessing her path
Welcome to paradise they say
Welcome to paradise my friend
It took her a little while
Hands on the belly
she sees yawns and marvels
Welcome to paradise they say
Welcome to paradise my friend
